Breeder Ann Baker developed the Ragdoll cat by crossing the domestic longhaired white cat Josephine with other cats of unknown ancestry. She chose cats with gentle personalities and long coats to produce beautiful cats with loving characters. She gave the name Ragdoll for the new breed as new cats were amiable and, without any resistance, could be handled in anyone's arms. After Ann created the Ragdoll cat, others mixed it with Persians, Birmans and Burmese breeds until we can see the result – the Ragdoll cat as we recognize it today. Despite similarities with other cats' breed fur, this cat no one directly bred with any other breeds. Anne started to develop the cat around the 1960s, but the first Ragdoll cat was registered 30 years later.
